Welcome to Playhouse!
We are located in West Orange, on the edge of Montclair, and have been serving local families since 1951. Let’s take a step inside to see what a cooperative, play-based preschool looks like. We’d love to show you around.
Inside our classrooms
Playhouse classrooms are designed to foster a sense of play, community, and curiosity. Each morning, teachers set out a handful of activities, inviting students to follow their own curiosities and desire to explore. Typically, students will vary their day between free play (indoors and outdoors), story time, and guided activities.
Shared spaces
The Playhouse walls are filled with tiles decorated by previous Playhouse families, connecting current students with the school’s history. Children go outside every day to explore, play, run, and jump on the school playground, which sets the stage for exploration with the natural world. Playhouse is also home to an in-school library, where teachers may find books on an infinite number of topics.
