The Parent Educational Workshop Committee has organized another exciting workshop for its
2012 Winter/Spring series.
All workshops are open to the public.
Every Child is Smart: Understanding Different Learning Styles
January 22nd, Sunday 2-4pm
Tina Lehn, educator and Principal, South Mountain Elementary School, South Orange
With over 25 years of experience in local schools, Lehn is deeply grounded in the ideas of Howard Gardner and the seven distinct (or multiple)
intelligences he has identified. This workshop will help parents better understand what different learning styles look like in their children
and how they affect their child's school experience.
Understanding Sensory Processing: has your child complained about loud noises or the tags in their clothes or the texture of sand?
March 18th, Sunday 2-4pm
Rika Alper, Ph.D., a developmental psychologist specializing in kids and families
This workshop is designed to help parents recognize and understand young children's difficulties with sensory processing (touch, taste, sound etc). We
will explore common problems that many children have learning to integrate sensations, coordinate motor activity, and maintain optimal levels
of attention and self-regulation at home and in school.
Thinking about Parent-Child Interactions: What You Say and Do Matters
May 20th, Sunday 2-4pm
Judy Jablon, MS, brings thirty years' experience in early childhood education to her work as a consultant, facilitator and author.
Interactions are the exchanges we have with others using words and gestures. As parents, you interact with your child all day long. When you take a
moment to quiet the static of everyday life so that you can really connect with your child in the moment, you can make a big difference in what your
child learns about herself, trusting relationships, and the world around her. Join me for a conversation about ways to turn some of your everyday
interactions with your child into Powerful Interactions!
All workshops are held at Playhouse from 2:00-4:00 PM. Invite friends and family--these workshops are open to the public. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please contact us at 973-736-9451.
