CURRICULUM
The Playhouse curriculum is the individual child. Each child is encouraged to recognize and develop those special qualities that are uniquely hers/his. Children and adults work together to recognize and nurture feelings, and to channel them in constructive ways.
Sensitivity and respect for others is an integral part of building the Playhouse community. The individual interests of children are used to propel experiences in the classroom and to fulfill age-appropriate expectations for preschoolers.
Teachers do not fill children with information, but rather draw on what they know and build on it.
The Playhouse day includes structured activities and free play for individuals and groups of children.
- Children learn by doing, and need an array of materials with which to explore.
- Accessories for imaginative and dramatic play are always available.
- Children may dress up, build with blocks or experiment with sand and water.
- In the art corner, children work with paints, clay, collage and wood working materials.
- Music and movement are offered to nourish all the senses, while puzzles, games and logic materials are used to help children problem-solve.
- An extensive school library supplies children with books to develop their love and understanding of language.
- Outdoor play offers opportunities for physical activity and appreciation for our natural environment.
- In addition, a variety of small animals provides immediate contact and experience with the world of nature.
- Daily nutritional snacks introduce new foods and encourage socializing and conversation.
